The C & E Merdinian Armenian Evangelical School in Sherman Oaks, CA completed another year full of vigorous and fruitful activities. These include another six-year accreditation status by the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACS WASC); celebrations of the 35th Anniversary of the School; a trip to the East Coast with a visit to the Headquarters of the Armenian Missionary Association of America; commemorations of the Armenian Genocide; end of year exams; and finally, the graduation ceremonies.
The Kindergarten section of the School held its year-end graduation ceremony on Saturday, June 10. Twenty-five children, full of life, talked, recited, sang and danced in Armenian. The enthusiastic parents were delighted with their children’s performance, and their teachers were shining with pride, witnessing the bold and fluent expressions on the children’s faces. A reception was held following the program.
The Year-End Program and the Graduation Ceremony for the Elementary and Middle School sections was held on Sunday, June 11. Festivities began with the American and Armenian anthems presented by the students followed by the Invocation by Rev. Joseph Matossian. Elementary section students recited Psalm 34, followed by group recitations and songs presented by the students of the Elementary and Middle School sections, addresses by the valedictorians and the presentation of diplomas and achievement awards.
Speakers for the event included Dr. Vahe Nalbandian, Chairman of the Board, Lina Arslanian, Principal, and Keynote speaker Nerses Aposhian, a 2006 alumnus. The celebrations concluded with a Benediction by Rev. Matossian followed with a Banquet at Verdugo Banquet Hall.
