Description
Under the direct supervision of the C & E Merdinian Armenian Evangelical School Principal, Interim Director, and the Lead Teacher, the assistant teacher supports the lead teacher in creating a developmental age-appropriate classroom for children ages 3-5.

The assistant teacher:
  • Is responsible for assuring compliance with codes of all State and local government contracting agencies, the School Board of Directors, State Standards and Guidelines, and works collegially with other school staff members.
  • Performs activities that ensure each individual's safety, involvement, and creativity in the group.
  • Works cooperatively with the lead teacher to discuss and help in implementing daily plans by the current curriculum and standards.

Requirements
Required/Desired Qualifications:
  • Assist the lead teacher in implementing C & E Merdinian Armenian Evangelical School Early Childhood education philosophy, which includes developmentally appropriate practices, emergent curriculum, CA Preschool Learning Foundations, and Outdoor Classroom Project.
  • Assists the lead teacher in designing and creating children's learning environment according to the above standards and approaches. On an ongoing basis, it helps the teacher plan, evaluate, and improve the indoor and outdoor physical environment to create opportunities to meet the changing needs of the developing child.
  • Collaborates with co-teachers in planning and implementing teacher-directed and child-initiated projects following the standards.
  • Assists the lead teacher in small-group activities for an assigned group of children.
  • Using the screening tools assists the lead teachers in creating and maintaining a comprehensive and ongoing portfolio assessment for each child. Based on the assessment results helps lead teachers in informing classroom instruction and making sound decisions about individual and group curriculum content, teaching approaches, and personal interactions.
  • Assist the lead teachers in nurturing a strong partnership with families to ensure that children's needs are met, family concerns are addressed, and transitions between program and home are smooth.
  • Responsible for developing individual relationships with children by providing responsive, attentive, consistent, comforting, supportive, and culturally sensitive care.
The person selected for this position must be professionally prepared as an assistant teacher of young children, especially in the field of early childhood education or development, and be able to meet the licensing agency's requirements.
