C. & E. Merdinian Armenian Evangelical School is an independent, non-profit school located in Sherman Oaks, CA. Established in 1982, the school provides education from preschool to 8th grade. The school's mission is to prepare students to be effective Christians who understand and practice the principles of the Christian faith, knowledgeable Armenian-Americans who appreciate their history and culture, proficient communicators in English and Armenian, critical thinkers, and responsible citizens. Merdinian is fully accredited by WASC.


Primary Responsibilities

Student Support Program: Develop, implement, and oversee programs that support students' social, emotional, and academic needs. These may include counseling services, mentoring programs, behavior management initiatives, and academic support programs. Support teachers regarding student achievement, classroom management, and overall best practices.

Student Discipline: Oversee school-wide behavior policies and procedures. Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other staff members to address disciplinary issues and promote a positive school culture. Support teachers regarding student achievement, classroom management, and overall best practices. Monitor student academic and behavioral performance.

Student Safety: Ensure the safety and security of students within the school premises. Implement and maintain emergency response plans, conduct safety drills, and oversee protocols for handling incidents or accidents involving students.

Student Enrollment: Collaborate with the school administrative team to manage student enrollment and retention. Assist with the registration process, conduct new student interviews, and coordinate student/parent orientations; direct the registration process, site visits, and admissions approval.

Family and Community Engagement: Foster positive relationships with parents, guardians, and the community. Organize and facilitate parent-teacher meetings, family events, and workshops to encourage involvement and support in students' education.

Student Records and Documentation: Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including attendance, grades, and behavior reports. Ensure compliance with applicable privacy laws and regulations.

Extracurricular Activities: Direct the planning and coordination of student activities programs, including extracurricular activities, after-school programs, Athletics Programs, student councils, clubs, and events. Encourage student participation in sports, arts, and other enrichment programs to enhance their educational experience.

Crisis Management: Develop and implement emergency response plans to address crises or emergencies affecting students. Coordinate with campus security, local authorities, and other relevant departments to ensure student safety and well-being during crises.

Collaborate with health professionals to promote student health and wellness on campus—support implementing health education programs, mental health awareness, and wellness initiatives.

Professional Development: Stay informed about current trends, research, and best practices in elementary education and student affairs. Attend professional development workshops and conferences to enhance your knowledge and skills.


Additional Duties

Establish, coordinate, and effectively communicate academic and behavioral performance plans with students, teachers, and parents.

Advocate for students and support their overall well-being. Address student concerns, mediate conflicts, and assist with problem-solving.

Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration to create a positive and inclusive school environment.
Work closely with the administrative team to provide academic and social-emotional support for all students and attend all student-related meetings.

Work positively within a parent-participation school environment and promote community and cooperation among all interested parties.

Direct all school-wide events and activities, including Open Houses, Orientations, Commencement, Parent-Teacher Meetings, Back to School nights, leadership retreats, field trips, awards ceremonies, and other recreational and social school-related events.

Plan, implement and evaluate educational programming to ensure continuous program improvement for the benefit of all students.

Incorporate policies and procedures aligned with educational laws and regulations.
Ensure that all practices in the school community are legal and ethical for each student/family so that each child can achieve at a high level and be ready for the next grade level.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the principal.
